Princess Wedding Cake

Princess Wedding Cake is one cake, made properly, for a family wedding rather than a shop full of customers.

The princess in it is baking for her sister's big day, and the cake is tall: seven layers, which is what turns it from a decorating exercise into something you have to plan. The lower tiers set the colour the upper ones have to live with.

Coloured cream goes over the layers, fruit goes on after that, and then the wedding trim: the touches that stop it reading as an ordinary birthday cake.

One person tastes it at the end and reacts, which is the only judgement in the game. There is no clock, no score and no queue, so the whole thing turns on whether the finished cake looks like a wedding cake.

How to play Princess Wedding Cake

Stack, cream, fruit, trim

  • Build the cake up layer by layer.
  • Cover the tiers with coloured cream, deciding the scheme before you commit.
  • Add the fruit over the cream.
  • Finish with the wedding decorations rather than everyday ones.
  • Send it to be tasted and watch the reaction.

Controls

Played with the left mouse button on the layers, the creams and the decorations.

Tips and strategy

Settle the colour scheme on the bottom tier first, because every layer above it has to agree with that one and the cake is seen as a whole. Use the fruit sparingly on the lower tiers, where it reads as clutter. Save the wedding trim for last: it is the thing that makes the cake a wedding cake rather than a tall birthday one.

The princess's sister's. She is baking one cake for the family rather than running a shop.

Seven, which is what makes the colour scheme worth planning before you start.

Is it timed?

No. There is no clock and no score: one taster reacts to the finished cake and that is the judgement.
